Last Saturday, 13th December 2025, was a historic day at the
palace of Oba Adedotun Oduneye Odusanya (JP), the Olu of Odosenlu-Alaro, a
prominent town in Ijebu North Local Government, Ogun State. The palace was
alive with pomp and grandeur as dignitaries, well-wishers, and guests from near
and far gathered to witness the formal installation of Otunba (Dr.) Taiwo
Oluwole Olubanwo and his wife, Yeye (Dr.) Oluwakemi Adunni Olubanwo, as Otunba
Atunluse and Yeye Otunba Atunluse of Odosenlu-Alaro, respectively.
The couple, who are based in Canada, are widely recognised for
their philanthropic work. In acknowledgement of their humanitarian
interventions, unwavering support, and contributions to societal development,
Oba Odusanya deemed them worthy of these prestigious chieftaincy titles. Both
titles — Otunba Atunluse and Yeye Atunluse — signify the role of a king’s close
chief, entrusted with the development and welfare of the community.
The installation ceremony was attended by top kings from
neighbouring communities. Oba Odosenlu-Alaro personally oversaw the rites,
while his royal colleagues showered blessings on the newly installed chiefs.
Dr. Olubanwo and his wife actively participated in all traditional rites, after
which they received chieftaincy beads, emblem caps, staffs of office, and
official certificates affirming their new titles. The couple also took
commemorative photos with the kings, chiefs, dignitaries, and invited guests.
Following the palace ceremony, celebrations moved to Equity
Resort Hotel for a grand reception. Guests enjoyed a spectacular display of
hospitality and culinary delights in honour of the new chiefs. The legendary
juju musician Tolu Obey, son of Chief Evangelist Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi,
entertained the hall with classic juju tunes, delighting the newly installed
chiefs and their guests.
The reception also featured a documentary tribute on the
couple, performances of cultural dance and Ewi by the Asani Alariya Cultural
Troupe, biography and tribute renditions, a toast to the new chiefs, and
special musical performances by the renowned Awikonko. The evening concluded
with vibrant displays of dance, laughter, and merriment, celebrating not just
the titles, but a lifetime of service and excellence.
Otunba (Dr.) Taiwo O. Olubanwo is a rare blend of medical expertise, corporate leadership, and humanitarian vision. Renowned for his impact in public health, healthcare administration, business innovation, and philanthropy, his work continues to strengthen communities and improve lives. His contributions to healthcare access, public health research, and rural development have left lasting, measurable impacts, cementing his reputation as a transformative leader committed to equity, innovation, and sustainable growth.
His wife, Dr. Oluwakemi “Kemi” Olubanwo, serves as President
of Regal Wellness Foundation Inc. (RWFI), a Canada-based NGO she co-founded
with her husband. She emphasizes: “As humans, we were created for a purpose — I
am pleased and humbled to have touched many lives over the past decades. Giving
back to the community, particularly those facing disproportionate social
determinants of health, is a responsibility I do not take lightly.”
Under Dr. Kemi Olubanwo’s leadership, RWFI has sponsored
numerous charitable initiatives, including free healthcare outreaches,
community development projects, and empowerment programs for all age groups. In
collaboration with her husband, RWFI recently donated an electric power
transformer, community development and capacity-building funds, clean water
projects, free healthcare services, and nutritional support to several rural
communities.
The conferment of Otunba (Dr.) Taiwo Olubanwo and Yeye (Dr.)
Oluwakemi Olubanwo as chieftains of Odosenlu-Alaro is set to transform the town
and its environs positively, adding a new chapter to its history of service,
leadership, and community development.
