The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has
honoured outstanding members of its workforce at a productivity award
ceremony held at its headquarters, Ijora-Olopa. The event saw a corps member securing automatic employment, while some temporary staff were offered full-time employment.
The event, which brought together members of the
management and staff from various departments and operational districts, was
meant to recognise and appreciate staff diligence, hard work, professionalism
and exceptional commitment to service delivery.
In his address, the Managing Director/Chief
Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, commended the awardees
across various categories for their resilience, discipline, and dedication to
keeping Lagos clean.
He said, “It will be a sin if hard work is not
recognised. All the work you do is worth more than anything, and this
recognition is just a token to let you know that management truly appreciates
you. It is also a promise that I will keep ensuring good staff welfare.”
He further encouraged them to sustain the good
works, assuring them that their efforts will not go unnoticed, while advising
them to distance themselves from negative influences, noting that excellence
thrives when individuals choose discipline, integrity, and positive company in
the workplace.
Gbadegesin further emphasised the management’s
commitment to staff welfare, describing the Best Staff Award initiative as a
promise to consistently reward excellence and dedication.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Head of
Administration and Human Resources, Ms. Zakinat Ranti Dosunmu, described the
award ceremony as a call to greater effectiveness and responsibility among
staff, noting that commitment and professionalism would always pay off in the
long run.
Award recipients, drawn from various categories --
senior, junior and project, were presented plaques and gifts, in recognition of
their outstanding contributions to the growth and success of LAWMA.
In his closing remarks, the Executive Director,
Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, commended the awardees for distinguishing themselves through
dedication, while urging them to view the recognition as a call to greater
responsibility, assuring them that the initiative would be sustained.
“This is not a one-off gesture. Excellence will continue
to be celebrated. Work hard, stay committed, and everyone will have a reason to
be celebrated,” he said.
