Otunba Olusola Adewumi is 60. His 60th birthday celebrations kicked off a few days back with a power-packed Thanksgiving service at Abundant Life Gospel Church, Iju Road, Agege, Lagos. On Thursday, August 14th, family, friends, associates, and well-wishers filled the church to rejoice and thank God for the remarkable journey of the celebrant, who is the Chairman/CEO of Equitorial Energy.

The highlight came when the celebrant, fondly called Pope, was ushered into a 60-minute non-stop praise session by his lovely wife, Deaconess Oluwakemi Adewumi, alongside their children and close friends. The atmosphere was electric with joy and gratitude.

The service was officiated by Rev. Dr. Mrs. Janet Onaolapo, the General Overseer of Abundant Life Gospel Church, who spoke glowingly about Otunba Adewumi’s steadfast dedication and immense support to the church through the years.

After the uplifting 3-hour Thanksgiving service, guests were hosted to a light reception at the Adewumis’ GRA residence in Lagos. The décor magic was handled by Royal Profile Events, a Lagos-based event décor outfit, which transformed both the Thursday service space and the Saturday grand party venue.

For the Thanksgiving reception, they painted the venue in all shades of blue. At the same time, the Saturday celebration dazzled with a rich blend of Gold and black décor, complemented by rosy floral arrangements. The entrance and photo area were elegantly branded with the celebrant’s portraits and themed flowers, providing guests with the perfect photo opportunities.

The atmosphere lit up the moment the celebrant, Otunba Olusola Adewumi, made his majestic arrival at the well-decorated reception. All eyes turned as he stepped in gracefully, arm-in-arm with his elegant wife, radiating charm and poise befitting the milestone celebration.

Adding to the glamour of the entrance was the presence of his close ally, Oluwole Olanipekun, SAN, alongside Prince Olajide Babalola and his beautiful wife. Together, they walked into the venue in grand style, setting the tone for an A-list event, camaraderie, and unforgettable celebration.

Otunba Adewumi could not hide his joy as he openly expressed gratitude to God for His grace over his life and family. Reflecting on his 24 years of service at Abundant Life Gospel Church, he declared himself “a fulfilled man at 60.” In appreciation to God, he presented a monumental birthday gift to the church—a fully equipped, furnished two-storey Children’s Department building.

The edifice boasts 15 classrooms, an administrative office, a children’s auditorium, and other child-friendly facilities, all dedicated to nurturing the younger generation.

Interestingly, this was not the family’s first remarkable gift to the church. Two years earlier, during Deaconess Oluwakemi Adewumi’s 50th birthday, she donated a multi-million-naira, tastefully furnished maternity centre, also supervised by the family’s trusted architect, Arc. Lekan, a long-serving church member.

With these legacies, the Adewumis continue to write their names in Gold—not just in their community, but in the kingdom of God.

Let's tell you more about the celebrant, Otunba Olusola Adewumi, who is fondly called Sola Adewumi, was born 60 years ago into the family of Deacon & Deaconess Emmanuel Adewumi of Ikere-Ekiti, both of blessed memories. From childhood, he was raised with discipline, strong Christian values, and the importance of hard work—principles that have guided and shaped his remarkable journey through life.

He began his educational journey in Ikere-Ekiti, where he had his primary education, before proceeding to St. Thomas Aquinas College, Akure, for his secondary education. He later advanced to the Ondo State College of Arts and Science, where he successfully completed his A-Levels. Determined to pursue excellence, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he graduated in 1987 with a degree in Accounting.

Armed with his academic training, Otunba Sola Adewumi qualified as a professional accountant. He began his career at KPMG, one of the world’s foremost auditing firms, where he honed his skills in auditing, corporate finance, and accounting. His drive for growth soon led him into the banking sector, where he worked with the Crystal Bank of Africa. Though his path was not without challenges and political undercurrents, these experiences became stepping stones that prepared him for greater exploits in business and leadership.

His turning point came when he ventured into the maritime and petroleum industry under the mentorship of industry icon, Chief Isaac Jolapamo. Through vision, resilience, and determination, he built a successful career and has since become a leading figure in Nigeria’s energy and maritime space.

Today, Otunba Adewumi is the Chairman of Equatorial Energy Company Ltd, Chairman of Inspiration Hotel and Suites, Director of JS Shipping and Trading Company Limited, Director of Chikem Farm, and the President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA). In these roles, he has remained a strong advocate for indigenous participation in shipping and oil and gas, working tirelessly to ensure Nigerian players get their fair share in the global maritime trade.

Under his leadership, he has spearheaded the revival of NIMAREX (Nigeria Maritime Expo), which had been inactive for over 15 years, while also drawing attention to critical challenges confronting local shipowners—such as limited access to funding, high interest rates, and the absence of shipyards. His vision is clear: to see Nigeria achieve greater competitiveness in global trade by empowering indigenous shipowners and strengthening maritime infrastructure.

Beyond business, Otunba Adewumi is a seasoned community leader. He is the National Worldwide President of Aquinas College Akure Old Students Association (ACAOSA), where his selfless leadership and commitment to development have earned him admiration and respect.

For his contributions to society, philanthropy, and leadership, he has been honoured with several chieftaincy titles. Notably, he holds the titles of Otunba of Ikere Kingdom and Bashorun of Ayede Ekiti, affirming his place as a true son of Ekiti with deep roots in culture, tradition, and service.

Otunba Adewumi is happily married to Chief Mrs. Oluwakemi Adewumi, his lifelong partner, whom he fondly describes as his organiser, prayer partner, pastor, and spiritual covering. Together, they have built a home anchored on love, faith, mutual respect, and shared purpose.

A devout Christian, Otunba believes that true success is not defined by wealth but by the legacy of a good name, integrity, and service to humanity. In line with this belief, he has quietly sponsored numerous students through school and supported community initiatives without seeking publicity, embodying his philosophy that “if you do what you are supposed to do, money will come.”

One of the highlights of the Adewumi @ 60 celebration was the love and strong support from the celebrant’s wonderful children. They all flew in from their bases abroad to celebrate their father in style, giving him every ounce of support and joy he deserved.

Their fashion game was on point! The gentlemen looked regal in champagne-white luxury lace agbada, paired with silver aso-oke caps, while the ladies sparkled in black lace with luxury Swiss gele—a sight that radiated elegance at the Thanksgiving service.

For the grand Saturday event, the family stunned again, stepping out in sky-blue luxury outfits, beautifully complemented with two-tone light-blue aso-oke. Truly, they lit up the stage with their coordinated looks and proud smiles.

When it comes to Style and Sophistication, the Adewumis know how to steal the spotlight. Chief (Mrs.) Oluwakemi Adewumi, a fashionista with impeccable taste, did not disappoint. For the Thanksgiving service, she dazzled in exclusive HOH black-and-silver iro and buba, matched with a Jakob Shlaeper Swiss gele/pele sourced from Jummy Exclusive Fabrics. Standing tall beside her, Otunba Olusola Adewumi looked dapper in his finely tailored white luxury lace agbada match up with same cap with his boys.

The Saturday celebration was another fashion showcase. The couple made a grand entrance with the electrifying Ola Best Live Band, setting the mood. Otunba rocked a silver grey luxury Swiss lace agbada, while his elegant wife shone in a shade of grey gown embellished with silver stones, courtesy of Sastextiles Fabrics.

Their second outing saw them turn heads again in sky-blue ensembles from Sastextiles. Otunba exuded class in another majestic agbada, while his wife glowed in iro and buba with a two-tone blue aso-oke gele and pele, topped with flawless makeup that sealed the look.

For their final appearance, the couple brought the house down in regal green attire. Otunba stunned in a grand agbada, while his wife captivated the audience in a luxurious head-beaded green dress, styled to perfection with makeup by Tshakky and gele artistry by Segun Lagos. It was style, grace, and glamour—every step of the way.
