The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism,
Arts and Culture has hosted stakeholders in the hospitality sector in the State
to a meeting where issues germane to the operations and activities in the
industry were extensively discussed.
With the theme: "Addressing Current Industry Challenges,
Exploring Emerging Trends, Understanding Policy Frameworks and Unveiling
Collaborative Opportunities Within The Entire Hospitality Value Chain,"
the stakeholders' meeting which was at the instance of the Commissioner for the
ministry, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, took place at Zinnia Hall, Eko Hotel and
Suites, on Thursday, 30th May,, 2024.
Anchored by popular stand-up comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, the first session of the stakeholders' meeting which was moderated by Ms. Mojibade Sosanya had the following people as panelists: Mr. Lanre Mojola, GM, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mrs. Olabisi Adelabu, GM, Lagos State Parking Authority, Hon. Shola Giwa, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Transport, Mr. Ayodele Subair, Chairman LIRS, Mr. Abdul Kabir Ogungbo, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Tax and Dr. Tunde Ajayi, GM LASERA.
The topic they discussed was: "Enhancing Compliance In
The Hospitality Sector", and as coordinated by the moderator, each of the
panelists had ample time to enlighten the audience on how compliance in the
hospitality sector is related to their respective fields, giving deep insights
and real life instances, to drive home their submissions to the applause of all
the people in the expansive hall.
Right after tea break, it was time for the second session of
the meeting to take place. And moderated by Mr. Frank Meke, a Travel Journalist,
Tourism Columnist and Chief Executive Officer of Creative Nigeria, member of
the second set of panelists included: Chief Alabi, President, Hotel Owners and
Managers Association of Lagos, Mr. Richard Shittu, CEO & Founder of Coco
Beach, Hotels & Resorts, Mrs. Tannaz Eterbarian, President, Restaurants,
Cafes, Bars and Clubs, and Mr. Mustapha Olasunkanmi, owner of Ile Iyan.
The topic before the second panelists was:
"Public-Private Partnerships: Strengthening Collaborative Efforts".
And taking up the microphone on their seats across the podium, they all made
useful suggestions as to how the collaborative efforts could be best exploited
by all the necessary parties in the value chain for common good.
At the end of each session, members of the audience who were
mainly drawn from different segments of the hospitality sector in the State
were given the time to also ask questions and make suggestions, before the
event was gloriously brought to a close.
