In 667 Polling Units of Ikeja Constituency
The residents of Ikeja Federal Constituency expressed their appreciation and admiration for their representative in the National Assembly's Lower Chamber, Honourable James Abiodun Faleke. The lawmaker recently began distributing food palliatives to registered voters in the constituency, as reported by thegazellenews.com.
The exercise which started on Thursday, 11 April, 2024 is
targeted at all registered voters in the Constituency irrespective of party
affiliations, religions or ethnicity.
The exercise started at the Constituency office of the Lawmaker located at the Omole area of the state.
In a seamless exercise devoid of rancour, shouts, rushing,
pushing and shoving associated with such exercise, residents walked in, sat
down under the canopy provided by the lawmaker and went in batches to check their
names on the register with those in charge of distribution.
The entry qualification for the exercise is the PVC. Aides of the Lawmaker with the voters list in their hands, called recipients on phone and invited them to come to the venue of the distribution and collect the food palliatives.
“This is not about politicians but about the real voters.
We’re targeting the real voters. So the only qualification for you to benefit
is to present your PVC. Those invited were asked to come with their PVCs to
authenticate their claim.
“This is how it will be done throughout the Federal
Constituency and all registered voters in the 667 polling units in Ikeja
Federal Constituency will benefit from this programme,” the lawmaker, who is
also the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance told our correspondent.
According to him, “We’re reaching out directly to the voters,
that is, the people who come out and vote during elections. No matter your
party affiliation or the candidate you support, if you’re a registered voter in
this Federal Constituency, you’ll benefit. We’re not asking anybody to drop his
or her PVC, we only ask them to bring it to show that they register to vote and
vote during elections. We’ve our records and we do our fact-checking to
ascertain claims”.
Beneficiaries were full of praise for the Lawmaker. “This has
never happened in this Constituency and I’m grateful to Honourable Faleke for
this kind gesture. When I received the call, I thought it was a scam but here I
am going home with a 15kg bag of rice and two semovitas. This is really unprecedented,”
Mrs Grace Anayochukwu told our correspondent.
Another beneficiary, Ismaila Gogobiri, said he was elated
when he collected the food items, noting that it would go a long way in solving
food challenges in his home. “When was the last time I ate semovitas? This is
indeed wonderful,” he said.
Others who spoke at the event described Honourable
Faleke as God-sent to the people of Ikeja noting that he has indeed improved
the welfare of his constituents since his sojourn into the Green Chambers of
the National Assembly.
