CMS GIRLS’ OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION CLASS OF ‘85 SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARDS CEREMONY

The CMS Girls’ Old Students Association Class of ‘85 recently held its Scholarship and Awards Ceremony to recognize the hard work and dedication of its students. The ceremony was held at the school premises in Akoka and was attended by the principal of CMS Girls Senior Grammar School, vice principal, members of staff, parents of awardees, distinguished guests, members of Class of ‘85, as well as the scholarship and awards recipients.

In her keynote address, the Chairman of the Scholarship and Award Committee, Princess ‘Dayo Odukoya, highlighted that the objective of the scholarships went beyond academic excellence. She emphasized that the scholarships were about igniting a passion for learning and fostering a culture of commitment to education that would continue to burn brightly in the hearts of the recipients for years to come.

Odukoya also noted that the scholarships were aimed at levelling the playing field and offering support to those who might not have had the same privileges but possess the same amount of ambition and potential. She firmly believes that education is the cornerstone of progress and empowerment, transcending boundaries, unlocking potential, and empowering individuals to shape a brighter future, not just for themselves, but also for their communities and the world at large.

Odukoya emphasized that the scholarships were not just financial aid, but an investment in a better tomorrow and the fulfillment of dreams.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the President of the Class of '85, Prof. Risi Dauda, said the seed of greatness sown by the group in the lives of current students of the school would be greater and better, one worth remembering in years to come, and charged the students to ensure that the sacrifices made by their parents were not in vain.

During the event, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, a former student of the school and the Special Guest of Honour, delivered a speech congratulating the recipients of the scholarship and bursary awards. She advised them to take their studies seriously, to excel wherever they might find themselves and to be good ambassadors of the school. She also praised parents for investing in the education of their children, saying that it was a step in the right direction.

The Principal of CMS Girls Senior Grammar School expressed her gratitude and thanked the Class of '85 for their continued support and dedication to giving back to the school. She also called on them to do more.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of cheques to deserving students in the various award categories. In total, about 20 students received these benefits.
