Funmi
Awelewa,
the popular Nollywood actress known for her comical roles as "Morili Omo Ibadan,"
has stepped up from acting to directing. She recently released a statement
announcing her debut as a director in a true-to-life short film called "A WISH," which was
produced by her company, Faab
Entertainment, and filmed in Ibadan.
The movie tells the story of her own life – her departure from home to pursue an acting career and how, unbeknownst to her, her mother suffered from eye problems that eventually led to her blindness.
According to the
actress, directing the movie was a challenging but rewarding experience. She
explained that the film was very dear to her heart, and she wanted to use it to
correct the misdeed of neglecting our loved ones, particularly our parents, in our
quest for a better life.
Awelewa urged people to always
create time for their parents, check on them, talk to them, and advise and
assist them in checking their health status.
The movie started
screening on her YouTube
channel, FaabTV,
on the 12th of October, 2023, which also happened to be the day the actress
celebrated her 35th
birthday.
Before delving
into acting in 2013, while being an undergraduate at the University of Ibadan, Awelewa was also into fashion
design. The actress mulls a comeback with her fashion brand, FashionENVY. A
philanthropist, she is the founder of Funmi
Awelewa Foundation, a non-governmental organization that
caters to the visually impaired. She is an entrepreneur and the creator of Glow Envy beauty and skincare products.
Under the
mentorship of veteran Nollywood actor, writer, and director Antar Laniyan, Awelewa has acted in films such as
"Wosi Kenke,"
"Aromimawe," "Omo Ibadan," "Natasha,"
"Gbakoje," "Ebudola," "Morili Bilisi," and
"Ewon Ife."
With a great following on Instagram and TikTok, the actress
enjoys a huge fan base across various social media platforms.
