Jagunmolu Okunrin Fehintade Akile Ijebu Prepare For 2023 Ojude Oba

One of the most vibrant age grade groups among the Ijebu-Ode Regberegbe groups is Egbe Jagunmolu Okunrin Fehintade Akile Ijebu. It has as members a lot of successful and accomplished gentlemen.

Let's quickly tell you that Egbe Jagunmolu Okunrin Fehintade Akile Ijebu represents Ijebu's sons born between January 1, 1965, and December 31, 1967.

The Egbe received royal recognition and traditional blessing from the Alayeluwa, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland on February 18, 2001 under the leadership of Giwa Aremo Adewale Abdul, now the Olofin Ajaiye, Orugbo Iddo.

The Egbe was accompanied to the Aafin Awujale, Ijebu-Ode for the Royal Blessing by the following distinguished patrons, like Royal Father – HRH Oba Engr. Josiah Bamidele Otukoya, The Oligun of Ilugun North.

The Baba Egbe – HRH Oba Gabriel Adebisi Onafuwa, The Oliworo of Iworo-Ijebu. The Iya Egbe - Olori Yemi Balogun, Yeye Fehintade of Okun Owa. The Adviser - Otunba Ademola Odularu, CEO Adla Motors Ltd. The Akeweje – Alhaja Chief Korede Alatishe, the Iyalaje of Ijebuland.

To further strengthen its advisory council as the Egbe grows, the following illustrious Ijebu sons were also appointed Patrons (as Advisers): Otunba Segun Ijaodola (RIP), Mr. Rasheed Adebola Shabi, and Dr. Adetunji Dawodu,

Presently, Egbe Jagunmolu Fehintade has a membership strength of about 40+ friends, who are spread across the globe. Among the members are notable professionals, successful business men and politicians, little wonder that Jagunmolu Fehintade has become the flagship amongst it’s peers.

Having engaged in various developmental activities in Ijebuland, albeit informally in the past through the provision of educational support to indigent students, the Egbe recently formally established its philanthropic vehicle, appropriately christened Jagunmolu Fehintade Foundation through which she is contributing meaningfully to the well-being of our people and the development of Ijebuland.

On June 30, 2018 Jagunmolu Fehintade Foundation provided free medical care for Ijebu people at the Olabisi Onabanjo Market (Ita Osu). People defied the rains to turn up in their hundreds for the following tests and treatments:

Eye tests and issuance of free eye glasses, Hypertension, Diabetes, Hepatitis, Malaria, Etc.

The programme was again repeated at a venue close to Oba S.K. Adetona Market (Oke Aje) on July 1, 2018 and again, the tremendous turnout stretched the medical team of 11 beyond expectation.

In addition to these initiatives, the Egbe also donated bedsheets to the State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode on June 30, 2018.

Given the huge success recorded by the medical outreach programme, the Egbe intends to raise the bar in communal giving through land-breaking activities in health, education and provision of critical infrastructure in the near term.

Let's tell you more about the role Regberegbe play in Ijebu society.

During the 19th century, Ijebu Kingdom was one of the most prosperous societies in Yorubaland. One key reason attributed to this growth and prosperity was the Regberegbe institution. The Regberegbe institution is essentially an organization of Ijebu people into age groups; usually with two-three year intervals. The Regberegbe was a major instrument of mobilization and social unity among the Ijebu. Friendly competition among the various Regberegbe groups was encouraged, which contributed to the development of the Kingdom as each group wanted to outshine all others. The various groups also banded with each other when concentrated efforts were required. They also established many community initiatives and charities.
