Canada-Based Dr. Taiwo Olubanwo & Siblings Celebrate Their Iconic Father At 75

Saturday 17th December, 2022 was a joyful day in Ipari-Oke, a community in Ijebu North East Local Government, Ogun state. This was the day the entire people trooped out to celebrate one of their illustrious son and education icon, Pa James Olusegun Olubanwo who clocked 75 years of age.

 

The entire community was in a celebration mood as they joined the children of the celebrant; Canadian based, Dr. Taiwo Olubanwo and his loving siblings in making the day worthwhile.

 

The celebration began on a high note with a symbolic and grand Birthday thanksgiving service which was held at The African Church, Ijebu North Diocese, St. Peter’s Parish, Ipari-Oke. The programme which was held under the permission of His Eminence, Most Reverend Julius O.O. Abbe the primate of the church saw respectable men of God in attendance. The officiating ministers include the likes of Rt Revd A. A. Adetubo, Venerable Oluyinka, Revd Canon Adeeko, Revd Canon Kogbe, Revd Canon Ajayi, Revd Canon Oluneye, Revd Canon Alemu, Revd Sanyaolu, Revd Olokojobi and Revd Adesanya. They all participated in the powerful service held in honour of the Pa Olubanwo as they took time to extol the celebrant while they rained prayers on him and the entire Olubanwo family.

 

At the thanksgiving service was concluded, the reception party began at the community field where the Olubanwo hosted their guests and the entire community. Notable among prominent personalities at the event is Honourable Folusho Badejo, the executive chairman of Ijebu North-East Local Government.

 

During a chat with CityPeople, he spoke high of the celebrant who he said is a prime mover and lover of development. He gave instances where the celebrant has been facilitating development in the area most especially how he has continued to influence his children and other influential people around to play their quota in the course of developing the Ipari-Oke community. He said communities need people like Pa Olubanwo as they are agents of change communities should clamour for. He therefore prayed for the celebrant by wishing long life in goodness of health.

 

Parts of activities which made the event unique was how popular broadcaster Akanda Oro Awikonko anchored the event. He was able to engage the celebrant and the audience with his classy jokes and presentations. The way he ran through the programme agenda was top notch as he kept to time and ensured that the event was fun.

 

Other activities that were held during the reception are the arrival of the celebrant, Cultural Dance and Ewi which was done by the Amuludun Drama Group, the celebrant’s remarks, Tribute and Biogragraphy of the celebrant written by Dr. Taiwo but read by his daughter, Eunice Olubanwo, Cutting of the elegant birthday cake which was anchored by Chief Samson OlubanwoToast to long life in good health was done for the celebrant by Bishop Adesoji Adetibo, and votes of thanks taken by Engineer Abimbolu Olubanwo.

 

The dance floor was however open for all and sundry to felicitate with the celebrant and his loving children while the Black Apple MUSIC BAND were up and doing as they played to entertain them.

 

Also speaking with CityPeopleDr. Taiwo, the son of the celebrant appreciated all and sundry who have come to celebrate their father and by extension making the day great for them. He singled out the executive chairman of IJEBU North-East Local Government, Honourable Folusho for finding time to honour their beloved father 75th birthday ceremony. Meanwhile he took time to dwell on the many enviable qualities of his father, many of which he adopted and as a result worked for him. He also spoke about his father’s wealth of wisdom, something he never regret tapping into when need be.

 

He went further to say; “his wisdom is more than what money can buy. Between his words of wisdom and money-I will choose wisdom and let go of money as his wise words are invaluable.” 

Pa James Oluswegun Olubanwo is one of the most respected educators in the land. His contribution to the Nigerian Educational System is immense. He has made his impact by helping many people come good and morally sound in their chosen fields. He belongs to the class of the very few people we can actually call the doyen of education in Nigeria and Africa.
