Every 6th December has always been a great day for
family,friends and well wishers of Dame Eunice Kayode,the Founder of
OmotayoMaternityHospital, in Ibadan.
This is because it is the day this great woman was born.
But this year's December 6th is so special as the celebrant
well known as Mama Omotayo clocked a landmark 80 years of age.
It was indeed a celebration galore in Ibadan.It was a big
occasion organised for the Legendary Mrs. Kayode who is an accomplished Wesley
trained Nurse with lots of track records and laurels in the nursing profession.
She bagged the highly
coveted Member of the Order of Federal Republic (MFR) during President Shehu
Shagari's regime,in the 80s.Mama Omotayo is a professional to the core and a
force to reckon with in the health care industry.
It is also worthy of note that she is highly industrious.She
founded the popular Omotayo Maternity, now Omotayo Hospital, and Omotayo Group
of Schools.
Both have been in
existence for decades and they are already household names in Ibadan.
She is also known in the Sports realm as a die hard
supporter of IICC Shooting Stars.She
never missed to watch live matches of the Ibadan based club.
The celebration of Mama Omotayo's birthday was glamorous and
eventful.Earlier in the day,a Thanksgiving service to commemorate the
celebration was held at the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.At the
highly inspirational service,Mama Omotayo was celebrated as an icon and a
worthy ambassador of Christ.Her indelible contributions to the work of God and
Humanity at large were mentioned.Meanwhile,the church prayed for her and the
family as they wish her more prosperous years in sound health.
The reception party for the octogenarian was held inside the
Felicia Hall at Jogor Events Centre in Ibadan.
It was a colourful event which saw guests and lovers of the
celebrant troop-in in their large numbers to take part in the celebration.
Many of the guests were given the opportunity to speak about
mama and how she has impacted their lives.
Among the high points of the event was the arrival of Mama
Omotayo into the hall, as she was accompanied by her loving children,freinds,
members of staff and well wishers.What baffled many was the fact that Mama
still looks fit,strong and agile at 80.This was evident in the way she danced
during her arrival into the hall.
Ace musician, Yinka Ayefele stormed the venue to celebrate
with Mama Omotayo and this caught the attention of many people in the
hall.Ayefele went straight to the celebrant to greet and congratulate her.He
also took some lovely pictures with the celebrant and her children.
Gracing the ceremony were all the who-is-who in the Ibadan
society setting.They came in batches to rejoice with the celebrant.
Three top singers played and
entertained the celebrant,her children and their guests.The first singer
was Kemi Rehoboth,followed by Esther Igbekele and crowning it all was Yinka
Adonai.Each of them gave a good account of themselves as they lit the event
with their esctatic display.
