These are not the best of times for the Sogunro sisters. They recently lost their mum, Mama Elder Mrs. Sarah Adebisi Muinat Sogunro passed on to greater glory on Wednesday 26th August 2021. Burial begins this week in Lagos from Thursday 2nd September to Friday 3rd September 2021.
Mama is survived by so many beautiful daughters. One of them
is Joke
Sogunro Umah, the owner of Soggys Couture in Surulere,
and London.
She is also a celebrity woman of substance.
She has revealed what she will miss about her late mum. In her
recent post on Facebook, she wrote about her mum:
Mummy darling the iconic fashionista. Before popular fashion
trends, you were trending hands down. From the 50s till you passed on, you wear
and they follow. My Incredible Elegant, Fashion Elite.
Before Social media's bombarding us on how to tie gele, you
were the
'Gele' Mastreo
'!!! Yeah__ The bumgidigidi_ your
popular mantra.
(Oyinbo to se aso, ko se fitting) rings louder and clear on our
ears. It makes me separate the real from the shaft.
You taught me to be an excellent cook my husband and children
can attest to this. You set the pace for us all. Illa asepo, Efo elemimeje,
to name a few. You were never tired of cooking the best for Daddy
and us. I miss your laughter, infectious gistings and incredible sense of
humour. You will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace, mummy.
Mummy. With your precious smile, your spirit still lives
around me. I’m not functioning very well in this house without you. Even the
dogs at home feel your absence at home. I miss you terribly, everywhere feels
so empty without you. You should hear the amazing things everyone is saying
about you. You are the one who always prays by my bedside, no one to give me
current affairs, I don’t hear the alarming sound of your radio giving me the
bulletin of the day anymore. I hope you are at peace and in a better place. Adieu
Mummy, I will miss you and will forever be in my heart
Elder (sis) Sarah Bisi Sogunro also wrote:
"My Sweet Mother, My Heart has completely shattered. I
was with you the day you left us, you prayed for me and advised me. Little did
we know it was your last moment. You were a force, a Power vessel, a strong
servant of God a precious jewel. Words cannot explain how I feel but I will
miss you greatly, I will miss our late night gists, always waiting for me to
return home, your delicious meals, and your constant love and care towards all
of us."
"Death can be a cruel thing. One minute you’re with your
loved ones, the next minute it’s all taken away from you. Your life on earth is
so precious, we should spread love and kindness to everyone because all we have
is one another. My dear mother has departed from us, I am completely broken.
Who knows when I will recover from this, who knows how? But in all things, we
must thank the Almighty and keep having faith."
"Mummy was very kind-hearted, always gave a helping hand to the known and unknown never had ill thoughts about anyone. Just a free soul, as delicate as a flower as compassionate. Always having a good laugh and making everyone around her laugh she will be truly missed. I don’t know how long I will grieve for but I will love you forever, your spirit would always guide me and lead us all.
