It was a colourful event last Sunday
19th September, 2021 at NECA House, Alausa,
Ikeja, Lagos when Rotarian Olawuyi Abinibi was
made the 10th President of Rotary Club of
Ikeja GRA, District 9110. It was also the induction
of 2021-2022 Board members and the fund raising for
humanitarian Service Projects. The Chief
Host was Rotarian Remi Bello, FCA, the District
Governor, Rotary District 9110, Nigeria.
Who is Rotarian
Olawuyi Abinibi? Olawuyi Tunde Idris is one of
Nigerian’s creative event stylist, with over 21 years
of experience in the event entertainment industry. He has successfully designed
luxury events for multinationals and high network individuals to bring their
special day to reality. He is an alumni of Command Day Secondary
School Ojo ,Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. FATE
foundation, LEAP Africa and a few other floral
training certifications.
He’s the Creative
Director of ABINIBI EVENTS COTIAGE and ETO by ABINIBI which
is a family of independent, event-centnc businesses. Individually, they strive
for perfection in our areas of expertise, while together they offer their
clients a one-stop shop solution for producing outstanding events. Their
singular goal is to surpass the expectations of our clients. Her clientele primarily
describes that of the independent, sophisticated, yet modern day bride, who is
looking for stunning style and exceptional service. ABINIBI events
cottage has an impeccable reputation in the industry for her creativity and
execution, attracting both local and international clients (Dubai). From NIMASA,
Nestle, Livespot360,GDM and other night
net-worth individuals.
Having handled over 1000
events since inception, his business experiences and exposure has
giving him the pedigree to mentor lots of upcoming event decorator and stylist
in the event and entertainment industry. He has trained over 30 successful
students in the decor sector of the industry. He is a partner of TESA The
event styling Academy, creative director of ETO by ABINIBI.
He’s a pioneer member of EMN, the Event
Market Nigeria , EIN and other event associations. He has been
presented with numerous
awards ,featured in several
publications like the wedding magazine, City People Magazine, The
Guardian newspaper etc. He has been a great asset and support to
the event industry and the world at large. Tunde Abinibi
Olawuyi is happily married to his wife Olutope
Olawuyi and with a son Oluwatishe.
Rotary Club of IKEJA GRA? Lets tell you a
little about the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA which was
chartered on 17 October 2012 with a charter membership
strength of 37 Rotarians, with Rotarian Wale
Osomo, as the Charter President. The Club was
sponsored by Rotary Club of Akowonjo with Igwe
Chuxx Ahmed as the District Governor’s Special Representative (DGSR).
Rotary Club of IKEJA
GRA had its first meeting at the Lagos Country Club,
Ikeja GRA in July 2012 with seventeen (17)
members, this membership grew rapidly to thirty-seven (37) members by February. Rotary
Club of IKEJA GRA continues to grow stronger in terms of Projects
Execution, Membership, and increased Relevance both at the District and Rotary
International This resulted in the Club having four (4) of its
members with roles at the District Office in the
year 2021/2022 and also previous years.
The Club has had 9 Past
Presidents, namely: Wale Osomo - Charter
President Ade Akinfolurin, Godwin Osemede, Bukola
Bakare, Akin Soyoye, Marcel Eguabor, Eghosa
Uwamuse, Sylvia Abdalla and Alex
Abah.Our current President (10th) is Rtn.
OIawuyi Abinibi and our President Elect for 2022/2023 is Rtn.
Ayodeji Odeleye. The Club as part of its strategic growth objective,
moved its weekly meeting venue from the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja to Protea (now
Radisson) Hotel lkeja from September 4th, 2014.
The new venue has provided the opportunity for more residents of its catchment
community to join our Club. Rotary Club of Ikeja
GRA caters for the fellowship needs of its environment and
provides community service opportunities to the less privileged. In the 2013/2014 and 2014/2015
Rotary years, the Club was involved in
a Cancer Screening Initiative, in collaboration
with St. Leos Catholic Hospital
and we usually support the Districts
Cervical Cancer Vaccination Project for the Girl Child.
Constructive repairs were made to the
premises of Hope Vision School, lIaje,
Bariga in Lagos State. The School is non-fee
paying and comprises entirely of pupils from very indigent parents, some
orphaned and it runs entirely on charitable donations. The community is part of
the riverine areas of Lagos State with the
preponderance of poor people. Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA also
distributed over 500 School Bags with educational
materials like mathematical sets, notebooks, pencils, lunch boxes, water
bottles
etc. “The School in a Bag”
project was undertaken in collaboration with Simon Pears
Foundation and Rotary Club of Yeovil, UK,
to indigent students in Lagos. The SlAB is
the Club’s Signature Project. Rotary Club of
Ikeja GRA has
always been supportive of the District’s Rotaract in various activities and has
produced some District Rotaract Representatives. We also
support our District financially through contributions of DEWEF yearly
and others. The Club was adjudged an “Excellent Club” during
the District Governor’s Visit on September
3rd, 2015.
The Club committed to doing ONE
PROJECT A MONTH during the 2015/16 year
and kept faith by ensuring that projects were carried out monthly till
date.Some of the executed projects of the Club (but not limited to) are: •Donation
of food, consumables, and educational materials to 2 Orphanages •Upgrade
offacilities atthe Hope Vision School, lIaje Bariga •Adult Literacy Lecture
•Annual Participation in Rotary’s Family Health Days Programme and providing
much needed health care to the community •Cervical Screening •Tree Planting
•Borehole provision •Free Educational materials to schools •Distribution of
dictionaries to primary schools •Donation of Life Jackets and incentives for
Polio Vaccination •Arranged Full Polio/ Rotary Branding of a vehicle for public
image •Sponsorship of students to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership
Academy (RYLA) yearly. •Full Polio/Rotary branding of 10 Motorcycles and Cows.
•Support to Artisans through Training, Skill Acquisition and Empowerment.
By way of extension, The Club has
birthed The Rotary Club of Magodo Central, Rotaract Club of Ikeja
GRA and 2 Interact Clubs. As an Award-winning
Club, the Club won the District Polio Award, RI Presidential
Citation, and several Recognition Awards during
the District Conference in 2015/16. Second
Position in Membership 2015/16 Our Club
was in the second position for The Rotary Foundation Contribution
Rotary Year 2017/18 Presidential Citations were also won in 2016/17,
2017/18, 2019/20,2020/21 Rotary Years. The Club came 4th and 5th in
both Rotary’s ‘Area of Focus’ and ‘We Care’
categories at the Rotary
International level in 2019/2020 and won
the Presidential Citation with Distinction.
It emerged 6th
position out of over 100 Clubs in the
overall performance at the District level in 2019/2020. We
rounded off the year 2018/19 with Second
Position Award For The Rotary Foundation (1RF)RC Ikeja
GRA contributes annually to The Rotary Foundation and
has produced 13 Paul Harris Fellows with one Major
Donor. Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA has been
waxing stronger under the leadership of its Presidents, Board
Members, Council of Past Presidents-the Club’s backbone and
particularly its committed members.
It is the clubs resolve and commitment to continue serving its Communities
through selfless, needful and impactful Service
Projects and other Humanitarian Services through
its skills and resources with the continuous support of both Corporate
Organisations and Individuals like you
